---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Project Progress Report: Guok-ESnet-December-2004-Report Date: June 2004 - December 2004 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Project Title: ESnet On-demand Secure Circuits and Advance Reservation System (OSCARS) PI: Chin Guok Co-PI: Institution: ESnet Number: Graduate Students: 0 Number of PhD Students: 0 Number of PostDoc Fellows: 0 Project Website (if available): www.es.net/oscars ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary of report - Configured the first LSP for testing between BNL and FNAL. - Deployed new hardware at GA in anticipation of OSCARS participation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Detailed Report A subset of the ESnet WAN was configured in the ESnet's development network to test MPLS, RSVP, and QoS parameters optimal for the OSCARS project. The parameter have since been deployed into the ESnet production WAN. A test LSP was configured between BNL and FNAL to examine the characteristics of a guaranteed bandwidth path. Only traffic from specific source/destination IP addresses with predetermined DSCP bits (as seen at the ESnet border routers) were injected into the LSP. To prevent disruption of production routing, the LSP were configured in a separate routing instance. This in essence cleanly segregates the routing tables used for production routing and the OSCARS LSP. In testing the LSP, we have noticed inappropriate behavior by the Juniper policer (which is used to throttle the traffic on the LSP to the reserved amount). We have fed the information back to Juniper and are working with them to resolve the issue. As of Nov 17 2004, we have deployed into production a Juniper M7i at GA. The deployment of this router will effectively allow us to configure a test LSP between GA and NERSC for application level testing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
