do we mean by 'Research' in this context?
Our interpretation
of 'research' here is a bit more defining than the general
concept. We view research as the investigation and testing,
with an eye towards possible deployment, of advanced services,
protocols, routing techniques, and tools necessary to meet
the expanding networking needs of the ESnet user community.
Since 1985, ESnet has
made continuous progress on the process of rolling into
service leading edge networking technologies. The investment
of resources towards this end has born fruit within the
framework of running a world-class production Internet backbone.
