Bruce Nordman has been with LBNL since 1986, working on energy use and efficiency in buildings. His research focus for the last 2 decades has been energy use of electronic devices, with networking as the key theme of the last decade. He is a long-time adviser to the Energy Star program, advising on test procedures, specification requirements, and other topics. He is the most cited proponent of "nanogrid" technology, to bring Internet principles to power distribution within buildings. Other work covers audio/video device networking, energy use measurement and reporting technologies, low power mode energy use, and user interfaces. He works with a variety of standards organizations including IEEE, CEA, IETF, and IEC, on test procedures, and on technologies to reduce energy use.
